At Derek James Woodworking, we strive to create custom pieces that not only serve a practical purpose but also carry a deeper connection to the home. Recently, we had the opportunity to work with a client who wanted to add a built-in bar cabinet to their entertainment space, and the result was a piece that holds both functional beauty and sentimental value.
Charcoal Elegance with a Personal Touch
The custom-built bar cabinet is finished in SW7069 Iron Ore, a rich charcoal black that gives the space a bold, modern rustic vibe. Brass hardware adds a touch of warmth and sophistication, perfectly complementing the sleek, dark cabinetry. But what truly makes this piece unique is the live edge cherry countertop.
The countertop is not just any wood—it’s made from a cherry tree that once stood on the client’s property, the very land where they built their home. We carefully preserved the natural edge of the wood, letting its organic beauty shine through. It’s this personal connection, combined with the natural grain of the cherry wood, that makes this bar a truly one-of-a-kind feature in their home.
A Balance of Style and Functionality
We designed the bar with a mix of open shelving and glass-front cabinets, creating the perfect blend of display and storage. The open shelves provide space for their favorite bar tools and decor, while the glass-paneled cabinets allow them to showcase glassware and bottles in a refined yet accessible way.
Every detail was considered, from the solid wood shelves to the hand-finished brass pulls. We believe it’s the thoughtful details that truly transform a space, and this project allowed us to bring both functionality and artistry together.
More to Come!
The client was beyond thrilled with how the bar turned out. In fact, they loved it so much that they’ve already asked us to collaborate on a custom built-in for their living room. We are honored to continue working with them to bring more of their vision to life.
At Derek James Woodworking, we’re passionate about crafting quality, personalized pieces that reflect the unique stories of the homes they inhabit.
