When we bought our house last year, there were a few things that we were struggling with in our kitchen.
- We needed a spot for our coffee makers.
- We needed more storage for food because there was no pantry.
- We needed a spot for a large kitchen trash can.
So we decided rather quickly that we wanted to add a coffee bar and pantry on a blank wall in our kitchen that was just wasted space!
The rest of our kitchen are stained wood cabinets. At some point we plan to redo the rest of our kitchen, most likely with either a wood tone or neutral paint color. So, we knew we could go with a more bold color choice for the pantry & coffee bar to create a statement. We landed on this beautiful deep blue, although depending on the lighting, it can look black! And the gold hardware really pops against the dark color.
Above the coffee bar, we opted for a couple of hickory live edge floating shelves. These are perfect for displaying (aka storing) our coffee supplies, as well as seasonal decorations!
Below the floating shelves is our coffee bar. There are four drawers for storage plus a pull out trash can. This section is topped with a maple butcher block countertop which is a perfect home for our coffee pot and espresso machine.
Next to the coffee bar, we built a floor to ceiling (or at least almost to the ceiling) pantry. The pantry features two sets of big doors that offer plenty of storage for food and small kitchen appliances.
Inside the pantry, we opted for pull out shelves. This is great because it helps you see and reach all of the items that get put all the way in the back. The lower part of the pantry has two slide out shelves and the upper section has four slide out shelves.
And for those wondering about a few of the details:
- The pantry is primarily made out of Baltic Birch plywood.
- The butcher block, doors and fronts of the slide out shelves are made out of Maple.
- The live edge floating shelves are made out of Hickory.
- The paint color on the pantry is Behr "Starless Night".
